Despite its name, Barleywine is very much a beer. It derives its wine characterization because typically the alcohol level is closer to wine than most beers.
Barleywine comes from England where Bass Brewery first brewed it as Bass No. 1 in 1870. It took almost 100 years for barleywine to reach North America.
Both Anchor Brewery and Sierra Nevada were pioneers in the US market. English barleywines tend to be smooth and malt forward whereas the American version tends to be hoppier.
Our Go Big or Go Home Barleywine is true to its English origins and we think you will enjoy the result.
